(1)Beautiful Victorian House
I went to view this house in May 2021. The house itself was really beautiful with a lot of victorian character. The wooden floor throughout was really nice.
The flow of the house was really great, living room at front and then the dining room followed by the kitchen in the heart of the house. During the viewing everything looked really good and to our taste. There were a few things we would have changed, but it was certainly a house you could move straight into and do nothing.
Then there were further treats at the back of the house. A utility room followed by a snug at the back with a log burner. It was hard to not picture ourselves with a glass of wine in here.
Then out the back a decent sized garden with an building/office which looked really great for working from home. It is a really lovely house.
The house sits off Buxton road away from the traffic down a little dead end street with a handful of terrance victorian houses. The houses can each overlook their neighbors gardens.
The owners parked outside their house but I wasn't sure if this was a "official" parking space. There wasn't also obvious parking for guests, and Buxton road can but busy.
One thing that was a downside to us was being a mid terrace there wasn't an easy way to the back. There were gates across the neighbors gardens so i guess you can go through their garden and there is a right of way, but this didn't feel great for wanting to bring the muddy dogs, bikes etc in the back entrance.
The location itself is lovely, we like nature and you are close to many walks, canal and countryside here, but with the benefit of being a 5-10 min walk to the town (although the uphill walk from town might be annoying sometimes). You don't see too many houses come up for sale in this area, on this street and and further up, so i think that always speaks volumes.
I can't remember how much the house was up for, somewhere around 300-310 perhaps. We gave it everything we had and went in at £333k, but we were quite significantly trumped and I believe it went for over £340k. It was around covid times when house prices were going crazy. So sold for a decent amount more than asking, but it was a lovely house in a lovely area and I can see why.
It was actually our nice neighbors who bought it. She were telling us how they were moving, up Buxton road. My ears picked up and a few more Q's later, once i figured out it was the one we had our heart set on. I was slightly jealous, but they got a lovely house!
A funny story - the estate agent refused to let us view/bid on the house as they already had a list of people scheduled. So we went round the house and posted a card to the owner asking if they would allow us to visit and she very kindly told the estate agent to let us :-)
